nasa sends spacecraft 2 astroid 2 bring piece back was created by ben evans

I wonder why nasa would send a spacecraft to an asteroid to bring a piece back. it might be because they want to see what it's made of so we know how to deal with it when its on course with earth. or it could be that nasa just wants to waste a few million on a ticket to an asteroid. it's strange how nasa can do all this, and yet they say they can't bring a crew back from mars.
