Okay, you guys tell me what you think of this. When I saw this, my first thought was, "Oh come on, someone at NASA is playing a joke on us!" I sent it to a moon anomaly site--they have a couple more images of it, all from different dates, different orbits. What do you guys think?

The object appears in several AS15 metrics in the same place on the image so it looks to me like some debris on the glass when ASU scanned the JSC film. It could be a beetle, just one on the scanner glass at ASU. ;)

:silly: Well, shucks, I have to admit a modicum of disappointment, would have been highly amusing if we had a beetle on the Moon! LOL, that even sounds like a 60's rock group! Thanks for the link!

The Apollo and Lunar Orbiter imagery is still the best imo. Especially the panoramic camera on the later Apollo missions and the high res camera system built for the Lunar Orbiter program . The problem is, they are plagued with every possible defect that can effect chemically processed film because of the nature of the mission. The Apollo stuff has chemical stains, scratches, light fog, cinch marks, and chips out of the film emulsion. The Lunar Orbiter negs were scanned in spacecraft while orbiting the Moon so have all the problems you would imagine an automatic photo lab to have. They have torn sprocket hole film (essentially confetti) which litter the inside workings of the camera occasionally blocking the light from exposing and creating a delta shape ( an example ) and the occasional scan glitch. Most Apollo scans online are multi-generational (from generational copy film) so it increases the odds of such a defect. So what I'm saying is this, if it looks like it doesn't belong, it probably doesn't. ;)

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel.   They really have kept the website current while I have been busy taking care of things in my personal life.   I promised that the next video would be a long one and have a LOT to look at.  You can get lost in these Gigapans and I really hope that you do!  I spent a lot of time stitching these together and making sure that they were the best quality that I could get them.  SOL 1448 really has been a goldmine for anomaly hunters and those people who are just hobbiest.  I really hope you enjoy this one and expect much more to come from the latest batches of images!
