Neville Thompson’s splendid collection of gigapans will remain a source of inspiration for anomalists for generations to come. This one from Oppy’s sol 4823 is absolutely jammed with fascinating anomalies to keep any hunter busy for hours. We chose two to concentrate upon, “Cleat” and “Phantom Temple”.
Just looking at the context view, most people can easily see all kinds of oddities that appear to be anything but natural. Our subject lies dead center at the bottom. Appearing as large as it does, it could easily be fifteen to twenty feet across and displays uniform characteristics that point to its unnatural origin.
Zooming in, our detail view reveals some very strange features. Its uniform width, curvature, overall shape, central hole and various appendages seem to indicate a manufactured item vaguely resembling a cleat used in tying up a ship. As large as it is however, it must have had some other function, perhaps industrial in nature.
Rather than trying to describe what I see, why not spend a few moments letting your eyes relax into the 3D image and explore this thing from end to end?

“SO, HOW DO I VIEW X3D STEREO?”
Simple! While viewing the stereo pair at a comfortable distance, gently cross your eyes (no eye-strain) until you perceive three images all the same width. The one in the center is in 3D. Just relax into it and your eyes will automatically bring it into focus. Once you have it, you will never forget how to do it. Kinda like riding a bicycle…
