Shortly after the interview began, the phone line to Mr. Zygutis went dead. As this was just the beginning of the interview, I expect another future interview with him. Further, a NASA employee who actually worked with Sagan on SETI called in and will be featured as a guest in the future. Perhaps both will be back when this interview is redone.

I think Carl Sagan is generally the definition of enigmatic and he symbolizes different things to different people. When it came to UFO reports, he was generally a skeptic, but outside of that, maybe not so much. I think he is the first modern astronomer to leave open the possibility of ruins on Mars when talking about the "Elysium Pyramids" in "Cosmos." It was the first time I had ever heard it.

Sagan is one of my favorites. I have read everything by him, plus a couple of biographies. While not the best family man (but then neither was Einstein), he was an excellent scientist.
