Hello blaxisprime1. Thanks for posting this question & welcome aboard!

I am pretty much just 'The News Desk' here as I usually just post news links. I am not much of an image analyzer and I am not versed in imaging software. I decided to go ahead and post this as I see that no one has responded to your post.

I do know that there are articles here that contain information about imaging software but, after conducting a few searches of the forum, I am unable to locate these. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable about imaging software will reply in this thread and provide you with the information you seek

If you are viewing very large Hirise JP2 image which hare the best quality then Hiview is excellent. It is free and downloadable from here: www.uahirise.org/hiview/

I’d recommend Hiview for viewing NASA satellite/orbiter images not jut large JP2 files. It handles large Jpeg, Tiff or JP2 files very well.

There are free photo imaging software application which provide alternatives to Photoshop like Gimp. But I don’t get on with Gimp so well. I have a Macbook and use Affinity. Which is OK but has its drawbacks but is not expensive like Photoshop.

For the files which are of a gigabit size you can use Hiview to view and then save a much smaller file (what you are viewing on screen) for maybe opening in an application like photoshop. Hiview has limited facility to alter contrast and you have greater control in an image manipulation software like photoshop, Gimp, Affinity etcetera.

If you want to look at Curiosity or Opportunity rover images in best quality you need to visit the Planetary Data Systems site.

To download these images and then view them you will need a specialised software. I use Mutlispec.

This too is free.

Once you have processed an image wit Multispec you are then able to view it Hiview or open it an image manipulation software like PhotoShop.

Todd is the resident expert here and will likely give you the best advice. If you download Mutlispec it sure is not so straight forward and I think Todd has already created a post that gives advice.

Haymaker Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

I've been looking for an application like MultiSpec for some time. Spectral analysis can reveal a great deal more about the composition of the Mars images we are researching.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel.   They really have kept the website current while I have been busy taking care of things in my personal life.   I promised that the next video would be a long one and have a LOT to look at.  You can get lost in these Gigapans and I really hope that you do!  I spent a lot of time stitching these together and making sure that they were the best quality that I could get them.  SOL 1448 really has been a goldmine for anomaly hunters and those people who are just hobbiest.  I really hope you enjoy this one and expect much more to come from the latest batches of images!
