check Curiosity Sol 1519 Mastcam Composite

This is a composite of five left mastcam images taken by Curiosity on sol 1519. Some of the objects present seem cobbled together, as if they may have once been part of some kind of Martian masonry. The protruding layers appear to have some solidified material that looks somewhat uncharacteristic in between them. Composite and enlargements below.

Here is a two frame composite made up of right mastcam images taken on sol 1521 which shows a better view of the exposed layers. Between the layers is a solidified material that resembles chewed gum between your shoe and the pavement. This is what I think would be left over if organic material within the layers decayed over time leaving minerals and replacement minerals (via water flow) behind.

Here is what I think has happened over time and this image is a perfect example. Organic matter breaks down into what is referred to as soil organic matter or humus and that looks very much like what has happened here. The compressed organic matter that has broken down over time has become the soil which is visible in the spaces, the spaces that the original organic material once filled.
