Curiosity Sol 1296 Mastcam Image: Artifact Preserved within the Stone Record? was created by Todd

Occasionally on Will's YouTube videos, I'll see someone leave a comment like, "they're just rocks." Well yeah, I think if there are artifacts left over from a Martian civilization, clearly a great number of them would be stone or in the stone record as a variety of fossils. The best archaeological finds on this planet are fossils and manipulated stone because other materials, especially organics, don't hold up so well over time. When it comes to Mars, any traces of civilization could have been abandoned three and a half billion years ago. I personally don't think it would be quite that old, but it could be. The image below is a left mastcam frame taken on sol 1296 and I think it is a good candidate for just such an object. The segmented parts of this object resemble foot bone anatomy, while the shape, unlike the more shapeless sedimentary layers around it, looks similar to a tuning fork or spike. The image was processed from the PDS raw DRCL .img file. Happy Holidays everyone!

Here is what I think is likely another example of the same phenomena from a sol 1302 left mastcam frame. The image was processed from the PDS raw DRCL .img file, enlargement below.
