check Curiosity Sol 1807: "Mineral Vein" Sample

6 years 11 months ago #10661 by Todd
Here is a right Mastcam image, recently released from sol 1807, that shows a sedimentary sample with a piece of "mineral vein" attached (right). I think we could be seeing random materials that built up within the cracks of the sedimentary layers to form separate mineral veins. However, the mineral vein integration still advances the "artifact theory" just that much further. It's possible the material is eroded remnants from a civilization, which would explain why the material changes composition from site to site. Stone structures could have been combined with technology which degraded over time into the solid element soup we see running through a number of these samples. Certainly the presence of such material is better evidence for an ancient civilization than its absence is.

I suppose it is a matter of interpretation. I can imagine how this may have been created by natural causes. At the same time, my gut tells me this is manufactured. So I am going to commit that I think this is a manufactured relic.

I gotta vote "natural" on this one. I didn't quite follow Todd's logic on this one.
Do you know if there was any analyses done on these ... rocks ... ?

If there was an ancient civilization that broke down from erosion, than a mineral vein that frequently changes composition would likely be present within the cracks of the damaged sedimentary layers and that is what we are seeing.

Its a really odd "formation" (Formed by mineral replacement fossilization i suspect too)

The Image blew up well for my recent Gigapan from 1807 (www.gigapan.com/gigapans/204219)

In the bottom of the image there seems to be manufactured debris?

OK, I think I understand. Being devil's advocate though .... if that was the case wouldn't the evidence be a lot more widespread?

When it comes to Gale Crater, the mineral vein is widespread, because the ancient lake in Gale was essential for its formation.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel.   They really have kept the website current while I have been busy taking care of things in my personal life.   I promised that the next video would be a long one and have a LOT to look at.  You can get lost in these Gigapans and I really hope that you do!  I spent a lot of time stitching these together and making sure that they were the best quality that I could get them.  SOL 1448 really has been a goldmine for anomaly hunters and those people who are just hobbiest.  I really hope you enjoy this one and expect much more to come from the latest batches of images!
