From this Curiosity image from sol 1899 there is a regular grid pattern on a rock. The pattern is not that obvious but definitely looks artificial. I suspect this has been made by the rover but have not seen a pattern like this before. Any ideas?

Think I've found the answer. Previously I have seen images of the pattern left by Curiosity's laser. These tend to be a line of what look like small drill holes. Much like the image on the left from sol 1621. However on harder rock the holes may not be so prominent and the laser can also produce a grid pattern of 9 as per the right image from sol 173.

This pattern from sol 173 is not a perfect match to the pattern I spotted from sol 1899 but it is in the ball park.

I think you are right on. They shot it all up. I don't blame them it is a interesting formation. I was looking at how many times the ChemCam laser has been shot so far since it has been there and it is TOTALLY amazing how many times it has been shot. It was over 20,000 when I had read the article before. I sure don't remember seeing that many marks but I imagine that it can reach out and touch someone at a distance.
