One possibility is that the discolored area is what was obscured and the disk was CGI-ed in as an intentional distraction.

This looks like the same spot. As seens by ISRO. Sure looks like it. I could be wrong. There are nice images of Mars in this video anyway.

After looking at the large JP2 image, I really don't see any image manipulation going on. The North polar cap does have winds, so I think we're seeing CO2 ice that has turned into gas, blowing out of the hole across the landscape, smoothing out some of the pitted terrain there.

Hi Todd, thank you for the additional information. Much appreciated.

It makes sense that this could very well be natural, but what I find very strange is that NASA calls this "A circular feature" and not what it really is. Normally they call a spade a spade.

Thanks again

Jean

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel.   They really have kept the website current while I have been busy taking care of things in my personal life.   I promised that the next video would be a long one and have a LOT to look at.  You can get lost in these Gigapans and I really hope that you do!  I spent a lot of time stitching these together and making sure that they were the best quality that I could get them.  SOL 1448 really has been a goldmine for anomaly hunters and those people who are just hobbiest.  I really hope you enjoy this one and expect much more to come from the latest batches of images!
