NASA calls this an 'Inca City' on Mars was created by RaptorZN2000
This photograph (PSP_006204_0985) was taken by NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) HiRISE Camera on 22 November 2007.

NASA describes this photograph as "Inca City - Monitoring of Evolution."

These anomalies could be natural but they do look interesting none-the-less:

i) The terraces are clearly visible with a distinct, very narrow "S" feature.

ii) The "X" or cross looks geometrical and has symmetry, 90 degree angles.

iii) The "Spiders" are located to the right of the photograph.

iv) There are several, narrow, oblong hills or features scattered across this terrain as well as another geometric, symmetrical feature to the far right.

Interesting name NASA chose to describe this HiRISE photo, could these anomalies be natural geological formations or was some intelligence involved with these?

Perhaps NASA (Never A Straight Answer) just thought this "Inca" village looked like a real Inca village. However, I suspect that a similarly plausible explanation for this name is that NASA is trying to plant subliminal messages in its viewing population at large; to at least have the viewer think, if only briefly to consider the name, that these could be manufactured structures, whether these particular ones are or not.

These terraces look like they could be natural topographic patterns of water runoff to me. That being said, the S-curve looks to me like some kind of levy, but it may still be a natural product.

As for the Cross: To my knowledge mountains, if produced by the upwelling of subterranean materials, will produce a force vectot pattern that will destroy anything in itheir path. In other words, two perpendicular mountains can NOT exist naturally abutting each other like this. So I am going with "manufactured" on the Cross.

And the Spiders: I searched "geologic fractal formation" and came up wwith several links describing how they can be naturally produced, with a bunch of mathematical equations I didn't bother to calculate. I could go either way on these.

Thanks for posting these.

Hi There, thanks for your take on these :-)

As for the "spiders" I guess fractal equations will describe them best ...

I find the spiders a lot more fascinating than the cross. I wonder how widespread they are over the total Mars sphere. The terracing is interesting. It would really be interesting to see some closeups from a rover, but we'd need thousands of rovers to cover everything we'd like to see.

Hi RocketDawg, thanks for commenting. The "spiders" are widespread and I've seen them in several NASA photographs. What's strange about them is that they sometimes appear to be features in the Martian surface and not always solid and above the surface. It would be great to have a rover take some close-up shots. Also, HiRISE photographs don't always cover the area's (CTX photographs) in which I've seen various strange anomalies.
