Bright Blue Object Captured on Mars was created by RaptorZN2000
This photograph (ESP_025752_1395) was taken by NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) HiRISE Camera on 24 January 2012.

NASA describes this photograph as "Reull Vallis."

I discovered a bright blue light/object in a crevasse on Mars. It appears saucer-shaped and self-illuminating. None of the surrounding boulders have the same shape or colour.

I also discovered what looks like a metallic wing with a rectangular engine mounted to it as well as a multi-sided pyramid and strange oval 3-d crater anomaly.

I downloaded the HiRise Merged RGB Map-Projected JP2 file to view these anomalies.

Since I don't see it on the greyscale / RED filter version as a density change, it is likely a cosmic ray strike on the blue filter. It's common on RBG filter space images, especially in the dark areas of the color Opportunity Rover stuff.

Here's a good example, check out my "Cape St. Mary" Opportunity images, they have blue cosmic ray strike spots all over them, especially noticeable in the dark areas. I'm sure HiRISE occasionally gets them too, if I find a HiRISE example, I'll post it but I think you already found one.:cheer:

Hi Todd, thank you for sharing this explanation, makes sense. Maybe I've found an example of a cosmic ray strike spot anomaly on the HiRISE, otherwise it's one of those "who knows" cases

Hi Todd, found another much smaller bright blue spot and a blue streak in another HiRISE photograph: ESP_033756_1385 (see attachment).

Yep, that's what it is. Those L-7 filters are sensitive. When I stack RGB I wish I could filter them out but that would be cheating.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel.   They really have kept the website current while I have been busy taking care of things in my personal life.   I promised that the next video would be a long one and have a LOT to look at.  You can get lost in these Gigapans and I really hope that you do!  I spent a lot of time stitching these together and making sure that they were the best quality that I could get them.  SOL 1448 really has been a goldmine for anomaly hunters and those people who are just hobbiest.  I really hope you enjoy this one and expect much more to come from the latest batches of images!
