exclamation-circle Archiving proposal

Hey guys, I wanted to run something by you, or see if someone has already thought of it.

Has anyone considered the idea of archiving all the Rover images, off of NASA/JPL websites? The reason for my question is, we've talked about the possibility of the Rover encountering even more stupendous things as it explores Mt. Sharp (IMHO, pretty likely), and the Rover suddenly, coincidentally (!) encountering "technical glitches/power loss/stuck in sand (oh, just pick one!) NASA would then have this solemn press release about how tragic it is to lose this sturdy, versatile little robot, just when things were getting so good! LOL, we've bemoaned the possibility, and I've even heard some researchers say, "Well, at least we'd have the other images to examine"

BUT....what if some of all of those images dropped off the website? IDK how likely that would be be, but it would make life awful boring for many of us!

What about the idea of archiving the images off-site, so that they would always be available, no matter what? I know that many of us already have tons of these images downloaded, so is something like this necessary? If so, what would it take to "get 'er done", how hard would it be?

Just thought I'd throw that question out there for you guys to toss around. Thanks all!

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel.   They really have kept the website current while I have been busy taking care of things in my personal life.   I promised that the next video would be a long one and have a LOT to look at.  You can get lost in these Gigapans and I really hope that you do!  I spent a lot of time stitching these together and making sure that they were the best quality that I could get them.  SOL 1448 really has been a goldmine for anomaly hunters and those people who are just hobbiest.  I really hope you enjoy this one and expect much more to come from the latest batches of images!
