LOL, I know what you mean! The people commenting on that story mentioned contamination by terrestrial methane, but they overlook the presence of methane in samples taken directly by the Rover, in situ. Nice link, Cruisedad, thank you!

The ESA story was particularly interesting to me. They mentioned that vulcanism has not been directly observed yet on Mars--I wonder what theories they might have to explain the plumes that have been imaged in the last few years. Is there such a thing as "explosive sublimation"? Many of the plumes seem to contain something that is dark-colored--who knows if it's soil or a byproduct of biology? Thank you Todd!

There are plumes that have been observed but not yet attributed to any cause.

It seems likely related to the cloud phenomena which could be CO2 and water vapor.
